Team USA Heads to World Amateur Radio Direction Finding Championships

15 сильнейших американских охотников за спрятанными радиопередатчиками (в оригинале on-foot hidden transmitter hunters — «охотники ногами» прим. перев.) пакуют багаж чтобы присоединиться более чем к 400 другим спортсменам из 39 стран, принимающих участие в 18-м Чемпионате Мира по спортивной радиопеленгации на Черноморском курорте Альбена, Болгария. Участники подразделяются на 6 возрастных категорий среди мужчин и 5 категорий среди женщин, в соответствии с Международными правилами ИАРУ для соревнований по спортивной радиопеленгации (ARDF). Команда США включает 9 мужчин и 6 женщин из шести штатов. Возрастные границы от 26 до 74 лет. Они завоевали свои места исключительно выступив на Чемпионате США — 2016 который проходил в Техасе и на Чемпионате США 2015 в Колорадо.
«В 10-й раз Соединенные Штаты направляют команду на Чемпионат Мира, который проходит в четные годы в различных государствах», — говорит Координатор СРП Американской лиги радиолюбителей (ARRL ARDF Coordinator) Joe Moell, K0OV. «В последний раз Болгария принимала Чемпионат в 2006 году, когда команда США завоевала первую медаль Чемпионата Мира.» Тогда Nadia Scharlau из Северной Каролины получила бронзу в классическом забеге на диапазоне 80 метров. От нее требовалось обнаружить 4 передатчика, разбросанных среди 2700 акров леса.
Соревнования в Болгарии начнутся 30 августа с забега на 80-метровом диапазоне в программе Кубка Мира — необязательных личных соревнований. Пять членов команды США примут участие. Забеги на Кубок Мира будут идти еще три дня (классический забег на 2 м, спринт и радиоориентирование (foxoring) и послужат в качестве тренировки мирового класса и дадут возможность завоевать личные медали.
Участники Кубка Мира получат один день для отдыха в субботу, 3 сентября, когда остальные участники Чемпионата Мира будут прибывать к месту соревнований.
Следующий день будет посвящен радиоориентированию (фоксорингу) — это будет первый официальный день Чемпионата Мира. Участники всех забегов будут стремиться завоевать медали как лично, так и в качестве членов национальных команд, состав которых для каждой страны ограничен тремя участниками в каждой категории по возрасту и полу.
Чемпионат Мира продолжится забегом в дисциплине спринт в понедельник, 5 сентября, а классические забеги будут во вторник и в четверг. Среда выделена специально, как свободный день, день экскурсий, предлагая отдых между классическими забегами. Банкет и церемония награждения будут после каждого соревновательного дня. И все участники разъедутся по домам в пятницу, 9 сентября.
Moell рассказал, что наилучший год для команды США был 2012, в центре Сербии, когда Соединенные Штаты выставили 13 участников. Шестеро из них собрали в целом 13 медалей на Кубке и Чемпионате Мира.
